Sex fiend is jailed

A serial sex predator who attacked three women in Crewe has been jailed for life

Andrew Hughes, 35, admitted raping a woman at knife-point in her home and savagely attacking two others.

Chester Crown Court was told he broke into the home of a female acquaintance on May 28, to find her sleeping. He threatened her with a knife before subjecting her to a two-and-a-half-hour ordeal.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and two sexual assaults against one victim.

Hughes also admitted a third sexual assault, two assaults occasioning actual bodily harm and the theft of a pedal cycle, when he appeared in the dock on Thursday.

He was given a life sentence and was told he will serve a minimum of eight years before he is considered for parole.

The court heard that a week before the rape Hughes, who was living in Crewe but was of no fixed address, assaulted a 25-year-old woman in Myrtle Street on May 20, punching her in the face. It was only when she bit his hand that the assault stopped and he fled.

On the same day in Walthall Street in Crewe, he violently forced a 22-year-old woman into an alleyway where he sexually assaulted her. He was disturbed by two men who chased him as he escaped on a bicycle

After these two attacks Crewe police’s Special Investigation Unit launched an manhunt involving crime scene investigators and plain clothes police.

When Hughes struck for a third time, raping a woman in her home on May 28, he was arrested 12 hours after the incident and DNA evidence confirmed his guilt.
