Former Stechford teacher who abused girl, 14, and called her his wife is jailed

A former Birmingham teacher who showered a teenage girl with gifts including a phone and jewellery, before sexually abusing her, has been jailed.

Mazhar Hussain referred to his 14-year-old victim as his ‘wife’ – and she believed she had entered into a marriage with him following an over-the-phone ceremony.

After Hussain ‘gifted’ the girl a phone, more than 2,200 text messages were exchanged between the two, many of them of an explicit nature – in little over a month

The messages proved Hussain, 38, had met with the youngster and sexual activity had taken place.

On a number of occasions Hussain and the girl referred to each other as husband and wife

The 2018 abuse came to light after the girl bravely made contact with police after speaking with a family friend about Hussain’s grooming.

He was arrested later the same day.

Hussain, of Old Farm Road, Stechford, admitted four counts of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16, at an earlier hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.

He was yesterday, Monday, March 22, sentenced to three years and three months in jail.

Hussain was also put on the sex offenders register and given a sexual harm prevention order for life.
