A paedophile who groomed an 11-year-old boy through online gaming has been told by a judge he may have to serve all of his eight-year jail sentence.
Jay Creed, 53, encouraged the boy to make a video of himself carrying out sexual activity on at least 20 occasions, Truro Crown Court heard.
He also gave the boy crypto-currency to play games, the court was told.
Creed, of Porthcurno, Cornwall, admitted two charges of causing or inciting a child into sexual activity.
He also admitted a count of making indecent images.
The court was told Creed referred to himself as “sugar daddy” and was in contact with other children.
He was arrested after the boy’s mother discovered what was happening and contacted police.
She told the court in a statement her son had lost his confidence and was scared to socialise.
The court heard police had to force entry to Creed’s home as they saw him running to destroy his computer hard drive.
Sentencing Creed, Judge Simon Carr said: “The victim was just 11, at the time you were 53.
“You gained access to him through online gaming sites and used this access to groom him and encourage him to engage in sexual acts such as masturbation, giving him crypto currency and links as a reward.
“You told him to delete his internet history and referred to yourself as daddy or sugar daddy.
“You failed to give police prompt access to your address giving you time to destroy a hard drive.
“The victim’s mum speaks movingly of a loss of friendship and confidence as a result of what you did. It’s clear courses undertaken in prison previously were unsuccessful and that you pose a significant risk to harm to children.”
Given Creed’s dangerousness he was given an extended prison sentence of eight years in custody and a further four years on licence.
He will only be released from prison once the Parole Board deem it safe to do so.
The court then heard about Creed’s previous offending against children, for which he had previously been sentenced to long periods behind bars.
At the time of the most recent offences Creed was on the sex offenders’ register for life.
Man admits getting child to film masturbation video
A paedophile faces years behind bars after admitting encouraging a child to video themselves masturbating.
Jay Creed, 53, appeared at Truro Crown Court via video-link from HMP Exeter and entered guilty pleas to three charges.
Creed, of Porthcurno west of Penzance, admitted two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and making indecent images of children.
The offences took place between August 2020 and January 2021.
Creed has been in prison since his arrest and will remain there ahead on sentencing on March 19.
The case was adjourned by Judge Robert Linford to allow for the creation of a dangerousness report, taking into account Creed’s previous past criminal history.
