Child sex attacker Barry Henson threatened to kill little girl’s pet mouse if she told of abuse

A father-of-two threatened to kill a young girl’s pet mouse if she told anyone about the sexual abuse she suffered at his hands when he was 12.

Barry Henson carried out the abuse in 2000 but his victim only went to the police about it 18 years later.

Sheffield Crown Court heard Henson would force the girl to carry out sex acts on him while also sexually touching her.

Prosecutor Ian Goldsack revealed Henson went to great lengths to keep the abuse a secret between them and drew up a contract.

He made his victim swear secrecy or run the risk of her beloved pet mouse being killed

The court heard Henson, of Swinbourne Road, Sheffield, had been “ashamed, haunted and tortured” by the guilt of what he had done throughout his life.

In a statement read to the court, his victim described how her life had been destroyed and that for more than 20 years of it she had carried the guilt and shame of his crimes.

Henson admitted indecency with a child and indecent assault of a child and was handed a three-year community order.

He must also obey a 12-week curfew banning him from leaving the house between 10pm and 5am.

Henson will also carry out 14 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
