Cramlington Nissan worker caught with more than 50,000 indecent images of children
A pervert caught with more than 50,000 child abuse images of children has been spared prison.
Alan Carr, who had a previous conviction for 15 offences of taking indecent images from 2006, was caught again when police searched his computer.
Newcastle Crown Court heard officers went to the Nissan worker’s home in Cramlington, Northumberland, in November 2019, with a search warrant.
He confessed what he had been up to at the scene.
Police found 22 of the most serious, category A, images, 155 category B and 52,634 category C.
The police did not categorise all of the images found on the hard drive because it would have been too time-consuming.
Most of the children featured were aged between six and 12 and the offences happened between 2011 and 2019.
Carr pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and was sentenced to 12 months suspended for two years with 200 hour unpaid work and rehabilitation.
He must also sign the sex offenders register and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
Judge Penny Moreland told him: “When you look at a photograph of, for example a girl of six being forced to perform oral sex on an adult man, you should acknowledge it’s not there for your delectation. A child has been sexually abused.
“There are more than 52,000 indecent images. 52,000 children who have been pictured so you can look at them in your spare bedroom because you don’t feel very good about yourself.
“They are pictures of real children and you need to take that on board.”
The judge said, given his previous conviction, it was arguable sending him immediately to prison was the only appropriate sentence but due to the fact he has a good job at Nissan and is in a supportive relationship, the chances of him being rehabilitated are good.
