Brave young mum left shattered after ‘depraved’ sex beast launches bid for freedom

A brave young mum has been left shattered by the news that the “depraved” sex beast who abused her and others over a 35-year reign of terror has launched a bid for freedom.

The woman, who can’t be named for legal reasons, has been left as a recluse at the news that David Paterson is trying to be released from prison.

Paterson, 53, was caged earlier this year after he was unmasked as a dangerous pervert who had targeted women and children.

He abused three women, two girls and a boy between 1983 and 2018 and was given sentences totalling seven-and-a-half years for his crimes at Ayr Sheriff Court in April.

But this week it emerged he was appealing his conviction and sentence to the High Court, and his victims were sent letters informing them of his bid for freedom.

And the letters state that he may be released from prison on bail during the appeal process

Paterson abused his victims at different addresses in Ayrshire, and, after abusing one girl, told her to keep it a secret.

He protested his innocence, forcing his victims to give evidence against him in two different Ayr Sheriff Court trials.

But he was convicted in both cases – and was slammed for protesting his innocence, before being placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Sheriff Scott Pattison caged Paterson for four years and placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register “indefinitely” for what he termed “serious sexual offences” and “a significant breach of trust.”

He also made him the subject of a two-year Extended Sentence, which will see him monitored in the community once he is released, “for the protection of the public.”

Sheriff John Montgomery caged him for 18 months for the other case he was convicted over, and said: “The behaviour you indulged in was depraved.
