First photo released of Staffordshire paedophile who raped schoolboy

This is the face of the Staffordshire paedophile who is set to die in prison after raping a young schoolboy.

Ronald Birks was jailed for 15 years after being convicted of a string of serious historic sexual allegations following a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court earlier this year.

Now detectives have paid tribute to those who came forward.

Birks’ offences included forcing himself on a boy who was under the age of 13.

The court heard the abuse has had a significant effect on the victim who turned to drink and drugs.

He was described as a ‘deeply traumatised man’ and is now receiving treatment from a mental health team.

The 77-year-old, of Newton Road, Stafford, has now been handed a 16-year extended sentence with a custodial term of 15 years and an extended licence period of one year

The court heard Birks also has a previous conviction for serious sexual offences involving young girls in the 1970s and 2001/02.

The judge placed Birks on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and he will be barred from a range of activities involving children and vulnerable adults.

Birks must serve half of the 15 years before he can be considered for release by the parole board
