Sick pervert caught with thousands of child abuse images while visiting Scotland

A computing expert was caught hoarding thousands of child abuse images at a Scots property.

Alex Edgecombe was found to have the horrific haul spread between his mobile phone and an online storage account.

The IT worker, 33, told police probing him that he had downloaded the illegal images accidentally – while looking for men on hook-up websites.

And he told the officers the 3,475 images were still on his Samsung S9 phone and Mega cloud storage account because he’d been too lazy to delete them.

But he has now been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and could be jailed after admitting his guilt over the case at Ayr Sheriff Court yesterday.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing indecent images of children on various occasions between January 14, 2019, and September 25, 2020, at a property in Auchinleck, East Ayrshire

Procurator Fiscal Depute Martina McGuigan told the court that officers raided the property at 7.45am on September 25, 2020, and found Edgecombe in a bedroom in the property.

She said he had 1,366 pictures and 2,109 videos.

The prosecutor added: “He said he was on several gay chat groups and had clicked, by accident, links which took him to videos of children being abused.

Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart deferred sentence until next month, placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register, and called for background reports to be prepared.

She told Edgecombe, whose address was given on court papers as Walsall, but was changed to Leamington Spa, that a Risk Assessment would also be carried out, to determine the danger he poses to the public.

Edgecombe states on his Facebook page that he is a former IT Technician at Seconique Plc, former Technical support worker at firm HGS, and worked in IT Support at Waveney District & Suffolk Coastal District Councils.
