Pervert dad told schoolgirl he’d ‘stand by her if she fell pregnant’ after fixing train station meet

A “troubled” paedophile arranged to meet a schoolgirl after telling her he’d ‘stand by her if she fell pregnant’.

Married dad-of-two Paul Phillips was also found with sickening indecent images of children as young as 10 after police raided his Redcar family home.

The 43-year-old had arranged to meet the 14-year-old on May Bank Holiday in 2019 but the girl’s mother intercepted the emails before they met.

Phillips appeared in the dock at Teesside Crown Court on Monday for sentencing.

The plumber previously pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming.

On March 26, last year, police officers attended Phillips’ then home address on Danby Dale Avenue, in Dormanstown.

The force had received intelligence that indecent images of children had been accessed at the property.

Phillips told officers he had “suspicions of what this is about” but didn’t have any images, prosecutor Victoria Lamballe said.

However, his laptop and Samsung mobile phone were seized and Phillips provided a “no comment” interview.

Teesside Crown Court heard how indecent images were recovered from the his laptop, 22 category A images, four in category B and six in category C.

Ms Lamballe outlined that they were all “moving images” and contained children as young as 10 years old.

The Middlesbrough court also heard how email threads were recovered between Phillips and a 14-year-old girl which “carried on from elsewhere”.

The data analysis showed the conversation began on May 1, 2019, where the pair arranged to meet on “May Day Bank Holiday”.

Ms Lamballe outlined how non-sexual images were exchanged before the chat turned sexual.

The child told Phillips her age but he stated that he “promises to stand by her if she falls pregnant”.

On May 3, 2019, Phillips arranged to meet the teenager the following day at a “train station” at 11am.

However, the girl’s disgusted mother intercepted the emails and warned Phillips to stay away from her daughter – only for the pervert to reply tjhhat anything that would have happened “would have been at her pace and not forced”.

Analysis of his laptop also highlighted conversations on internet-based chat platform Omegle.

Ms Lamballe said he asked another user if he had daughters to which he replied ‘yes, 13 and 10’.

Phillips then asked about their physical appearance.

He was then re-interviewed after the material came to light but he answered “no comment” to questions asked. No images were found on Phillips’ mobile phone.

Recorder Latimer jailed Phillips, of Ravenscroft Avenue, Linthorpe, for 17 months.

He will also be subject to notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
