‘Danger to young girls’ jailed for 12 years

Pervert Gareth Robinson, formerly of Gillow Heath and more recently of of Durber Close, Audley has been jailed for 12-and-a-half years after he sexually abused two schoolgirls.

The 39-year-old dad had penetrative sex with a girl under the age of 13. He also pulled down the underwear of another teenage girl, exposing her private area.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he made his two victims watch adult pornography as well

The abuse happened when the defendant was in his early 20s.

Robinson’s actions have had a profound effect on the victims, who are now both adults.

One said: “The crimes are classed as historical. However, it is very present to me. I have to live with this every day of my life. He ruined my life.

“He is not even remorseful and does not believe he has done anything wrong, which is sick. The man is a danger to young girls.”

The other victim said: “I tried to take my life when I was aged 16. I could not mentally cope with the flashbacks or the guilt.”

Robinson, of Durber Close, Audley, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child. He was found guilty after a trial of assault of a child under 13 by penetration; sexual activity with a child under 16 and two charges of causing a child to watch a sexual act.

Adam Watkins, mitigating, told the court that the exposure of the second victim’s private area was fleeting. “It was crass, it was bullying, it was demeaning. It resulted in exposure for a matter of seconds,” he added.

Mr Watkins said the defendant has struggled with depression and anxiety. The defendant’s mum died on August 21 and there is no guarantee he will be able to attend the funeral.

Recorder Anthony Warner said: “You told the first victim, ‘You can’t say a word to anybody because we’ll be in a lot of trouble’. You knew what her age was.

“The second victim was shocked and embarrassed after you exposed her private area.

“You showed both victims explicit adult pornography.”

Robinson was made the subject of a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
