Vile paedophile who raped girl multiple times jailed for 18 years

A paedophile who raped a girl under the age of 18 multiple times was accused of showing ‘no shred of remorse’.

Peter Edwards appeared before Liverpool Crown Court via video link last Friday after being convicted of 12 counts of rape on a child.

The 40-year-old was found guilty by a jury in July.

Prosecuting, Charlotte Kenny told the court how in the victim’s personal statement, she revealed that she has since suffered from depression and anxiety.

Ms Kenny also stated how the rape offences went on for between two to three years in Culcheth.

The court heard how Edwards told the victim she was ‘helping him’ and if she refused he would ‘pester’, ‘beg’, ‘conjole’ and ‘nag’ her.

Judge David Swinnerton concluded: “I can see you over the video link raising your eyebrows and shaking your head.

“That doesn’t surprise me because you have not shown a shred of remorse for what you have done.

“You have shown no victim empathy.”

Judge Swinnerton also claimed Edwards was asked about how the victim feels, he said: “I don’t care.”

He said Edwards, formerly of Kenworthy Lane, Manchester, also ‘worryingly’ made comments that the victim will ‘get what she deserves’ and that he ‘hates’ her.

The judge added: “You took, in effect, her childhood by sexually abusing her.”

Edwards was handed an 18-year custodial sentence.

He was for ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register and was issued a Restraining Order and Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely.
