East Hull man found guilty of of raping teenage girl
A man has sentenced after being found guilty of raping a teenage girl after a five day trial
Mark Downs, 56, of Portobello Street, off Holderness Road in east Hull, appeared at Grimsby Crown Court to face two counts of sexual assault by penetration and two counts of rape
The offences are said to have happened in May 2018.
Hull Crown Court heard that Downs attacked the girl and went on to rape her after visiting Propaganda nightclub in Hull city centre.
An unusual feature of the evidence was that on the night of the incident, the victim started a recording on her mobile telephone which captured audio of part of the assaults upon her and her repeated protestations and pleas for him to stop.
The jury unanimously convicted Downs on Friday 19th February 2021.
HHJ Kelson QC, the trial judge, sentenced him to 8 years’ imprisonment. The defendant will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
