Paedophile caged for 16 years after carrying out ‘campaign of rape’ against two children

A paedophile who carried out a “campaign of rape” against two children has been caged for 16 years.

Matthew Pattison sexually assaulted and raped two children over a “significant amount of time” and was finally jailed for his sickening crimes on Wednesday.

Teesside Crown Court heard the 28-year-old carried out “appalling sexual abuse” against the children.

And despite being found guilty by a jury, Pattison continues to deny carrying out the offences.

Prosecutor, Nick Adlington said Pattison’s crimes finally came to light in 2019 when one of his victims told a school education officer about what he did.

Police were then contacted and an investigation began.

Similar allegations received later from another victim were then included in the investigation.

Pattison even told one victim he would kill them if anyone found out and put his hands around their neck and “tried to strangle them”, Mr Adlington said.

The court heard that Pattison told a victim he would also commit suicide if he ever got sent to prison and that it would be their fault.

In a statement read out to the court, the victims, one of who is now an adult, said they had been left with “no confidence” and that the offences had “serious consequences” on their lives.

One said their childhood had been “taken away” from them and that they were still coming to terms with what happened.

Recorder David Gordon said Pattison carried out “extremely serious sexual offences, including rape”.

He said Pattison, of Crestwood, Middlesbrough, also used “emotional blackmail”.

Recorder Gordon jailed Pattison for 16 years, with a further two years to be served on extended licence.

Pattison will be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, and was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

He was also given an indefinite restraining order.
